Made-to-measure wardrobes · Built in Dorking since 1995
Sloping ceilings, alcoves, chimney breasts and corners that standard furniture never fits. We design and hand-build wardrobes to the millimetre in our Dorking workshop, for homes across Surrey and Sussex.

Made-to-measure wardrobes
[Photo: wardrobe fitted into an awkward space]
Most homes have at least one space that defeats flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture. A loft bedroom where the ceiling drops away. A pair of alcoves either side of a chimney breast. A landing with an angled wall, or a room with ceilings so high that a standard wardrobe looks lost. These are exactly the spaces where a made-to-measure wardrobe earns its keep.
Because we design and make every wardrobe ourselves, there are no stock sizes to work around. We measure the space precisely, take every slope, angle and uneven wall into account, and design a wardrobe that fits it completely, with the interior planned around what you need to store. You see the design as hand-drawn plans or full CGI images before anything is made, and we can fine-tune it until it is right.
Every panel is then cut and edged to your measurements in our Dorking workshop, so the wardrobe that arrives is the wardrobe that was designed for your room. Our own CSCS-carded installers fit it, finishing any angles and gaps with matching infill panels so it looks as though it has always been there.

Awkward spaces
[Photo: wardrobe following a sloping loft ceiling]
01
Where a ceiling slopes, we build the wardrobe to follow it. Infill panels meet the slope neatly, and doors can be shortened to sit beneath it or, with Shaker styles, angled to follow the line of the ceiling. Loft conversions often have the most wasted space in the house, and a made-to-measure wardrobe reclaims it.
02
The alcoves either side of a chimney breast are natural homes for a wardrobe, but they are rarely the same width or perfectly square. We measure each one individually so both wardrobes fit snugly and match each other.
03
Older homes in particular can have walls that lean or openings that are out of square. We use side and top infill panels to square up an angled opening so the doors run true and the finished wardrobe looks straight, even when the walls are not.
04
In a room with tall ceilings, a standard wardrobe leaves a large empty band above it. We can take your wardrobe all the way up, adding high-level storage for things you use less often.
05
In a box room or narrow bedroom, sliding doors and a floor-to-ceiling design make the most of every inch without taking floor space for doors to swing open.
The complete package
[Photo: made-to-measure wardrobe doors and interior]
A made-to-measure wardrobe is more than a cabinet cut to size. Every part of it is chosen for you:
Door style: sliding doors for confined spaces, hinged doors where there is room for them to open, or a walk-in design where the space allows. Sliding wardrobes · Hinged wardrobes · Walk-in wardrobes
Door materials: Spacepro steel or Komandor aluminium sliding profiles, AGC coloured glass and mirrors, and vinyl-wrapped or Egger MFC panels for hinged doors.
Colours and finishes: an almost unlimited choice, so the wardrobe fits your existing scheme or the one you are planning.
Interior: more hanging space, more room for folded clothes, shoe storage, drawers on full-extension runners, all arranged to suit you.
Build quality: high-density Egger panels with 2mm ABS edging, and soft-close components on hinged doors.
Whatever the shape of the room, the aim is the same: a wardrobe that fits the space perfectly and looks right in it.

Why not standard sizes?
Standard-size wardrobes are built to suit an average room, and very few rooms are average. In an awkward space they leave you with gaps, wasted height and corners you can’t use, and they often have to be squeezed in at an angle that never quite works.
A made-to-measure wardrobe is built for one room only. That means:
Developers use our made-to-measure wardrobes to give new build bedrooms a high-end finish, and we survey each site before installing sliding, hinged or walk-in designs. Builders and carpenters can order panels and materials cut and edged to their specification, on a supply-only basis.
Real examples

A few examples from our recent work show how we solve awkward rooms:
01
A sliding wardrobe built into a sloping ceiling, with shortened Shaker doors, an internal floor and a top infill panel following the slope.
02
A hinged wardrobe with Shaker doors angled to follow the shape of the ceiling.
03
An angled opening squared up with side and top infills so a set of aluminium-framed sliding doors could run true.
04
A new front frame and sliding doors built in front of an existing wardrobe carcass, transforming the room without starting again.

Reviews
“I need some replacement sliding doors for a built in wardrobe in a flat in Guildford. I contacted a number of companies; Sliding Wardrobe Warehouse were outstanding in terms of response and quality of work. No problems at all; highly recommended.”

“We went to the showrooms in Dorking where we had a warm welcome from Mark who gave us all the information we needed on the Shaker style doors that we wanted. On the day of the installation the fitter, also called Mark, did a very professional job and cleared away afterwards.”

Can’t see your question? Call us on 01306 741488 or ask during your showroom visit.
Yes. We build wardrobes to follow sloping ceilings, using infill panels to meet the slope and doors that are shortened or angled to fit beneath it. Loft rooms are one of the spaces we work in most.
All our fitted wardrobes are made to measure. “Made to measure” simply means the wardrobe is designed and built for the exact dimensions of your space rather than chosen from stock sizes, which matters most in rooms with slopes, alcoves or uneven walls.
Yes. We measure each alcove separately, because they are rarely identical, and build a matching pair of wardrobes that fit both precisely.
No. We use side and top infill panels to square up uneven or angled openings, so the doors run smoothly and the finished wardrobe looks straight.
Yes. We provide hand-drawn or full CGI images of your wardrobe, whichever you prefer, and we can fine-tune the design until you are completely happy.
Every wardrobe is priced individually, depending on its size, door style, finishes and interior. After measuring your space we give you an accurate, detailed quotation with no obligation.
Most wardrobes take around a day to install, while more complex designs can take a little longer. We will give you a realistic timeframe when we plan your wardrobe.
Often, yes. If the existing carcass is sound, we can build a new front frame and sliding doors in front of it, giving the room a completely new look without starting from scratch.
Sliding doors in our range can be made up to 2.7m tall and hinged doors up to 2.5m. Above that, we can add infill panels or high-level storage so the wardrobe reaches right up to a tall ceiling.
Yes. Trades and DIY customers can order panels and doors cut and edged to their exact sizes and finishes, on a supply-only basis.
Yes. The same approach works for understairs storage, home offices and other awkward spaces around the house.
Yes. We work with developers across Surrey and Sussex, surveying new build homes and installing made-to-measure wardrobes to finish their bedrooms to a high standard.
