Home office furniture
[Photo: fitted desk and shelving in a spare room]
More of us work from home than ever, and the kitchen table soon stops being a practical office. But most home offices have to squeeze into a space that was never designed for one: a box room, a corner of the spare bedroom, a landing or an alcove. Standard office furniture rarely fits these spaces well, and it often looks out of place in a home.
That is where bespoke furniture comes in. We design and make home office furniture to your exact measurements, so your desk, shelving and storage fit the room perfectly and look as though they belong there. Because everything is made in our own Dorking workshop, your office furniture can be finished in the same colours and materials as our wardrobes and bedroom furniture, which matters when your office shares a room with a guest bed or your own bedroom.
We start by understanding how you work. How much desk space do you need? What has to be stored, and what should be kept out of sight at the end of the day? Do you need room for a printer, files or reference books? Then we design, make and install the furniture ourselves, with the same care we have brought to bespoke furniture since 1995.

What we can build
[Photo: fitted desk with shelving above]
Every home office is designed from scratch, so the pieces depend on your space and the way you work. A typical home office could include:
Fitted desks: built to the width of an alcove or wall, at the height that suits you.
Shelving: open shelves for books and display, or shelving behind doors.
Cupboards: to keep paperwork, equipment and clutter out of sight.
Drawers: on full-extension runners, so you can reach right to the back.
Storage around the desk: making use of the space above and beside your workspace.
All built from high-density Egger panels with 2mm ABS edging, in the same almost unlimited choice of colours and finishes as our wardrobes.
Spaces we can work with

01
If your office doubles as a guest room, fitted furniture keeps the work area tidy and the room restful. Closed storage means everything can be put away when visitors arrive, and furniture can be designed alongside a wardrobe for guests’ clothes. See our fitted wardrobes.
02
In a small room every inch matters. Made-to-measure furniture uses the full width and height of the walls, so even a narrow space can hold a proper desk and plenty of storage.
03
An alcove beside a chimney breast is a natural spot for a fitted desk with shelving above, turning an unused gap into a compact workspace.
04
Loft rooms and eaves are often left empty because standard furniture won’t fit. Because we build to measure, we can design around slopes and awkward angles. See our made-to-measure wardrobes for how we handle awkward spaces.
05
A wide landing or the end of a hallway can hold a slim fitted desk with shelving above, giving you a quiet spot to work without giving up a whole room.
06
If you work from a garden room or converted outbuilding, fitted furniture helps a compact space work as a proper office.

Planning your home office
A home office works best when it is planned around your day, so these are the questions we will go through with you:
A home office should be comfortable to work in for a full day, not just look tidy. When we plan your furniture we think about the height of the desk, the depth you need to keep a screen at a comfortable distance, and the space underneath for your chair and legs. The things you reach for every day should sit within arm’s length of the desk, while archive files and spare stationery can go higher up or behind doors.
If your office shares a room with a bed, closed storage makes a real difference. Cupboards and drawers mean laptops, paperwork and equipment can be put away at the end of the day, so the room feels like a bedroom again in the evening.

Why bespoke?
01
No gaps, no wasted corners and no furniture that almost fits.
02
Finishes chosen to suit the room, not an office.
03
Floor-to-ceiling designs use the full height of the room.
04
Solid construction from our own workshop, not lightweight flat-pack.
05
The same finishes as our wardrobes and bedroom furniture.

Reviews
“I need some replacement sliding doors for a built in wardrobe in a flat in Guildford. I contacted a number of companies; Sliding Wardrobe Warehouse were outstanding in terms of response and quality of work. No problems at all; highly recommended.”

“Great wardrobes fitted over 10 years ago, still working perfectly and looking great!”

“We went to the showrooms in Dorking where we had a warm welcome from Mark who gave us all the information we needed on the Shaker style doors that we wanted. On the day of the installation the fitter, also called Mark, did a very professional job and cleared away afterwards.”

Yes. Because everything is made to measure, we can design a desk and storage for even a narrow box room or alcove, using the full height of the walls to fit in more than standard furniture would.
Yes. We can design office furniture with closed storage so work can be put away, alongside a wardrobe for guests, so the room works for both.
Yes. Our home office furniture is available in the same colours and finishes as our wardrobes and bedroom furniture.
Yes. Alcoves are ideal for fitted desks, and we measure each one precisely so the desk and shelving fit wall to wall.
Yes. Shelving above or beside a desk is one of the best ways to use the height of a small room, keeping books and files close to hand without taking up desk space.
Yes. We design around sloping ceilings and eaves, so a loft room can hold a desk where there is full head height and low storage under the slopes.
Planning the furniture around your equipment helps keep cables out of sight. We will talk through where your screen, printer and sockets will be when we design the office.
If we made the wardrobe, yes. Otherwise bring us a door sample or photos and we will find the closest match from our finishes.
No. Because it is made in the same finishes as our wardrobes and bedroom furniture, your home office furniture looks like part of your home rather than something from an office catalogue.
Yes. Our own team installs everything we make.
Every home office is designed and priced individually, depending on its size, the pieces you need and the finishes you choose. We give you a clear quote once we have measured your room and agreed a design.
