Walk-in wardrobes
When most people picture a walk-in wardrobe, they imagine a separate room lined with rails and lit like a boutique. We build those, and they are wonderful. But a walk-in wardrobe can also be a compact corner closet, a converted alcove or a section of a larger bedroom, and you may be surprised how little space you need.
Because a walk-in wardrobe is such a personal space, we design it with you rather than for you. We look at the room you have, the clothes and accessories you own, and the way you like to get ready in the morning. Do you have lots of smart garments that need long hanging, or is most of your wardrobe folded knitwear and casual clothes? Do shoes, bags or watches need a place on display? The answers shape every shelf, rail and drawer.
From there we take care of everything, from the first sketch to the final fitting. Your design is drawn up by hand or in CGI so you can see it before it is made, built in our Dorking workshop from high-density Egger panels, and installed by our own team. We work with homeowners, housing developers and trades across Surrey and Sussex.

Types of walk-in wardrobe
01
If you have a spare bedroom or a large box room, it can become a dedicated dressing room with storage on every wall, space to get ready and room for a dressing table. We have built open-plan dressing rooms with no backs to the units, for a light, airy feel.
02
In a larger bedroom, part of the room can be screened off to create a walk-in area, with sliding or hinged doors closing it off from the sleeping space.
03
A corner of a room or a recess can become a small walk-in closet, using L-shaped or U-shaped storage to fit more in than a straight wardrobe could.
04
Opening up an existing alcove is one of the easiest ways to create a walk-in wardrobe without losing a room, and it often uses space that was doing very little before.
The shape of the room usually suggests the layout. A narrow room suits a galley design, with storage on one or both long walls and a walkway between. A squarer space can take an L-shaped or U-shaped layout, wrapping storage around two or three walls. In a larger dressing room, an island of drawers in the middle adds storage and a surface for folding and laying out clothes. We will look at the room with you and recommend the layout that gives you the most usable storage while leaving enough space to move around comfortably.
Features and interiors
A walk-in wardrobe works because everything has its place. We plan each interior around your belongings, with features such as:
Pull-down hanging rails: bring high rails within easy reach, so you can use the full height of the room.
Long and double hanging: long hanging for coats and dresses, double hanging for shirts and jackets.
Trouser racks: keep trousers crease-free and easy to see.
Tie and belt racks: small accessories organised and on view.
Internal drawers: on full-extension runners, for underwear, accessories and folded items.
Wire baskets: good for knitwear, gym kit and things you want to see at a glance.
Shoe racks and shoe shelves: for anything from trainers to boots.
Shelving: for folded clothes, bags and boxes.
Interiors are built from 18mm high-density board in a range of colours, finished with 2mm ABS edging. See every option on our customisation options page.

Doors or open?
It is entirely up to you. An open walk-in wardrobe has a sleek, modern look and lets you see everything at a glance. If you go open, sorting belongings into categories and using drawers and baskets keeps it looking tidy.
Doors give you privacy when getting dressed, a dressing room feel and better protection from dust. Sliding doors are especially useful because they don’t need clearance to open, which keeps the floor space free. Our sliding wardrobes page shows the door systems, glass and mirror options available.
Benefits
01
A well-planned walk-in keeps clothes out of the bedroom and off the back of the chair.
02
When everything is visible and has its place, getting dressed takes less time.
03
With more room to spread out, you no longer have to cram things in.
04
You can clean around your things rather than emptying a cramped wardrobe first.
05
Add doors and it becomes a private dressing room.
06
Many buyers see a walk-in wardrobe as a luxury, especially off a main bedroom.

“I need some replacement sliding doors for a built in wardrobe in a flat in Guildford. I contacted a number of companies; Sliding Wardrobe Warehouse were outstanding in terms of response and quality of work. No problems at all; highly recommended.”

“We went to the showrooms in Dorking where we had a warm welcome from Mark who gave us all the information we needed on the Shaker style doors that we wanted. On the day of the installation the fitter, also called Mark, did a very professional job and cleared away afterwards.”

Less than you might think. A compact corner closet or a converted alcove can work as a walk-in wardrobe, while a spare bedroom can become a full dressing room. We will measure your space and show you what is possible.
Doors are optional. An open design looks sleek and makes everything easy to see, while doors add privacy and keep dust out. Sliding doors are a good choice because they don’t need space to swing open.
It can. Many buyers see a well-designed walk-in wardrobe as a luxury feature, particularly off a main bedroom, and good storage is always appealing.
Natural light makes it easier to choose outfits and helps ventilation, but strong sunlight can fade delicate fabrics. If your walk-in has a window, blinds or UV-protective film help protect your clothes, and we will plan the layout with the light in mind.
Avoid overcrowding, keep any vents clear of clothes and furniture, and leave doors open from time to time if it has them. An open design naturally allows more air to circulate.
Like any storage area, walk-in wardrobes can collect some dust. Regular vacuuming and wiping down helps, and drawers, covered boxes and doors all give extra protection.
Plan it around what you own: long hanging for coats and dresses, double hanging for shirts and jackets, drawers for underwear and accessories, shelves or baskets for folded clothes, and racks for shoes, ties and belts. We will go through your wardrobe with you to get the balance right.
It depends on the size and complexity of the design. We will give you a realistic timeframe when we plan your walk-in wardrobe.
Yes. Sliding doors are a popular choice for walk-in wardrobes because they don’t need space to swing open. They can be fitted with mirror, coloured glass or panel infills to suit the room.
Yes. We build to follow sloping ceilings, so a loft room can become a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room, with taller storage where the ceiling is highest and drawers or shelves under the slope.
Yes. We regularly design dressing rooms with storage on several walls, and can include a dressing table and matching bedroom furniture.
Tell us about your space and your wardrobe, and we will show you how it could work.
