Fitted wardrobes

Fitted Wardrobes That Make the Most of Every Wall

[Photo: fitted wardrobe filling a whole wall]

A freestanding wardrobe always leaves something behind: a gap above that fills with boxes, a strip at the side that collects dust, and a slot underneath you can never quite reach. A fitted wardrobe does away with all of it. Built into the room from floor to ceiling and wall to wall, it turns the whole space into storage and gives the bedroom a clean, finished look.

Every fitted wardrobe we make starts with your room and the way you live in it. We measure the space, talk through what you need to store, and design the doors, carcass and interior around that. You can choose sliding doors to save floor space, hinged doors for full access, or a mix of both, in an almost unlimited choice of colours and finishes, so the wardrobe suits your room now and adapts to your décor later.

Then we make it. Panels are cut and edged to your measurements in our Dorking workshop and fitted by our own installers, so the team that designs your wardrobe is the team that builds and installs it. We work with homeowners, property developers and trades, and we can also supply panels and doors on their own if you have your own fitter.

    Two ways to build

Front Frame or Full Carcass: How We Build Your Fitted Wardrobe

Not every fitted wardrobe is built the same way. We use two methods, and we will recommend the right one for your room at the survey.

    Front frame

A front frame wardrobe uses the walls, floor and ceiling of your room as part of the structure. We build a frame across the opening, fit an internal floor, and close any gaps to the walls and ceiling with matching infill panels. The result looks completely built in and gives you the most storage for the space. It works particularly well in alcoves, across the full width of a wall and in rooms where the walls are not perfectly straight.

    Full carcass

A full carcass wardrobe is built as a complete cabinet, with its own sides, back, base and lid, then fitted into place so it reads as part of the room. It suits rooms where you want a fully lined interior, where the wardrobe meets other fitted furniture, or where a free-standing section of the run needs its own finished sides.

Both methods can take sliding or hinged doors, and both are built from high-density Egger panels with 2mm ABS edging, double the 1mm many manufacturers use. Already have a sound carcass you want to keep? We can also build a new front frame and sliding doors in front of your existing wardrobe.

    Choosing your doors

    Sliding, Hinged or Mirrored Doors

[Photo: sliding, hinged and mirrored wardrobe doors]

Your doors decide both how the wardrobe looks and how well it works in the room, so we look at the space in front of the wardrobe before recommending a style.

    01

    Sliding doors

Sliding doors move sideways, so they need no space to open. In a smaller bedroom, or where the bed sits close to the wardrobe, they are almost always the practical choice. They run on Komandor aluminium or Spacepro steel profiles, with mirror, coloured glass or panel infills. See our sliding wardrobes for every option.

    02

    Hinged doors

Hinged doors open outwards to show the whole interior at once. They suit medium and larger rooms, period properties and anyone who wants a traditional furniture look, with dozens of colours, styles and handles to choose from. See our hinged wardrobes.

    03

    Mirrored doors

Mirrored doors are worth considering whichever route you take. A floor-to-ceiling mirror reflects light around the room, makes a small bedroom feel bigger and saves finding space for a separate full-length mirror. All our glass and mirrors comply with BS 6206 safety requirements.

Want something larger still? A fitted wardrobe can open into a full walk-in wardrobe or dressing room where the space allows.

    Why fitted?

The Benefits of a Fitted Wardrobe

[Photo: tidy fitted wardrobe with doors open]

Maximum storage: using the full height and width of the wall gives you far more space than any freestanding wardrobe of the same footprint.

No dead space: no gap on top for clutter to collect, and no hard-to-clean spaces at the sides or underneath.

Less dusting: a wardrobe that meets the walls and ceiling leaves fewer surfaces for dust to settle on.

Organised every day: an interior designed around your clothes makes it quicker to find things and put them away.

Suits any style: traditional, contemporary or minimalist, with finishes that work with your current décor and future changes.

Adds to your home: well-designed fitted storage is a practical feature buyers notice when you come to sell.

    The interior

Designed Inside as Carefully as Out

A fitted wardrobe is only as useful as the space behind its doors. Before we draw anything, we ask what you actually need to store: how much long and short hanging, how many folded jumpers, how many pairs of shoes, and whether anything bulky needs a home.

From there we plan shelving, hanging rails, internal drawers on full-extension runners and shoe storage at the heights that suit you. Interiors are made from 18mm high-density board in a range of colours, and many customers choose to match them to the doors.

You can see some of the configurations we have built for customers in our work, and every option is set out on our customisation options page.

Fitted Wardrobes for Developers and Trades

We regularly work with property developers across Surrey and Sussex, surveying new build homes and installing sliding, hinged and walk-in wardrobes to give finished bedrooms a high-end look. For builders and carpenters, we supply made-to-measure panels and materials cut and edged to your sizes and finishes, ready for your own team to fit.

“I need some replacement sliding doors for a built in wardrobe in a flat in Guildford. I contacted a number of companies; Sliding Wardrobe Warehouse were outstanding in terms of response and quality of work. No problems at all; highly recommended.”

“Great wardrobes fitted over 10 years ago, still working perfectly and looking great!”

“We went to the showrooms in Dorking where we had a warm welcome from Mark who gave us all the information we needed on the Shaker style doors that we wanted. On the day of the installation the fitter, also called Mark, did a very professional job and cleared away afterwards.”

It is your choice, but floor-to-ceiling gives you the most storage and the neatest finish. Some people prefer to stop below the ceiling for a lighter look, and we will help you plan the height so there is enough room for everything you need to store.

Yes. Fitted wardrobes can be installed on carpeted floors. Our front frame wardrobes include an internal floor, and our team makes sure every installation is level, secure and properly fixed.

A fitted wardrobe is built into your room to its exact dimensions, filling the space from floor to ceiling and wall to wall. A freestanding wardrobe is a standard-size piece of furniture that leaves gaps around it and rarely uses the full height of the room.

Yes. Each part of a fitted wardrobe can have the door style that suits the space in front of it. We will talk you through the options at your survey.

Good airflow helps prevent damp and musty smells. We plan the wardrobe so air can circulate, and keeping it from being packed too tightly helps protect your clothes over time.

Often, yes. If your existing carcass is sound, we can build a new front frame and sliding doors in front of it, which can be a cost-effective way to transform a room.

Most fitted wardrobes take around a day to install, while larger or more complex designs can take a little longer. We will give you a realistic timeframe when we plan your wardrobe.
